HPU Downed By Schreiner

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Lady Jackets dropped two games to Schreiner University 10-12 and 2-16 in American Southwest Conference action Saturday afternoon. 

In game one, the Lady Jacket opened up a 7-2 lead after four innings. Schreiner had a huge top of the fifth scoring 8 runs. HPU tacked on 2 runs in the bottom of the inning, but Schreiner added 2 more in the top of the sixth. Now down 9-12, HPU needed to rally but only scored 1 run in the bottom of the sixth. Schreiner held to win game one 10-12. 

Schreiner's Rebecca Hay recorded 4 hits and 5 RBI and Patty Toman got the win for Schreiner. Kate McLaughlin and Kellye Wheeler each had 3 hits, Lauren Bollich also had 3 RBI. 

In game two, it was all Schreiner as they scored in every inning to take the win 2-16. The Lady Jackets did put up runs in the second and fourth innings. 

McLaughlin got the loss for Howard Payne and Schreiner's Rebecca Hay posted the win. 

Howard Payne stands at 17-5, 5-3 in ASC play and Schreiner is now 16-7, 6-2 in ASC action. The Lady Jackets will travel to Alpine next weekend to take on Sul Ross State.
