Softball Drops Two Close Ones To HSU

ABILENE, Texas - The Howard Payne softball team dropped two one-run games 2-3 and 4-5 to Hardin-Simmons University in American Southwest Conference action Saturday afternoon.

In game one on Saturday, Howard Payne held a 2-1 going into the seventh inning. Hardin-Simmons' Clark doubled to right field scoring two to win the game 2-3. The Lady Jackets got their runs in the 4th and 5th innings. In the 4th a Wheeler singled to center field advanced Kristi Pinkerton to third and scored on an error by the HSU 3rd baseman, Kate McLaughlin singled to right field scoring Lauren Bollich in the 5th.

Jenna Middleton picked up her second loss on the year for HPU (14-2). Lauren Bollich had three of the HPU hits in the game.

Game two went much the same for Howard Payne. The Lady Jackets were down 1-3 after the 3rd inning. HPU tied the game in the 5th with a Kellye Wheeler single to center field scoring Ashley Silva and a Kimble Luna single to the pitcher scoring Rebecca McDaniel.

Howard Payne added a run the next inning on a homerun by Ashley Silva to centerfield. HSU had an RBI single in the 5th and a solo homerun in the sixth to give HSU the 4-5 win.

Middleton posted the loss for HPU to stand at 14-3 on the year. Rebecca McDaniel and Kellye Wheeler each had three hits in the game.
