HPU Takes First 2 Games From Sul Ross

ALPINE, Texas - The Howard Payne softball team got double header wins over Sul Ross State on Friday, 5-1 and 9-0 in American Southwest Conference action.

After scoring one run in the first inning, the Lady Jackets gave up their only run of the day in the bottom of the third. The difference in the game was the 4-run top of the 6th for Howard Payne that secured the win, 5-1. 

Jenna Middleton picked up the win for HPU giving up just 2 hits to improve to 10-0 on the year. J. Workley recorded the loss for Sul Ross State.

In game two, Howard Payne got multiple run innings in the 1st, 4th, and 7th innings. Lauren Bollich and Kate McLaughlin had three hits each in the game. 

Melissa Hall recorded the complete game win for Howard Payne to improve to 6-2 on the season. C. Johnson got the loss for Sul Ross State. 

Howard Payne improves to 19-5 overall, 7-3 in ASC play, while Sul Ross State falls to 1-27 on the season, 0-14 in ASC.

The two teams will play another double header on Saturday to complete the series.
