Jackets Headed To ASC Tourney

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne men's tennis team secured a bid to the American Southwest Conference tennis tournament with a 6-3 win over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon at the Nabers Tennis Center.

The Yellow Jackets came out of the doubles with 3 wins and finished it off with wins in #3 & #5 & #6. Jeff Toyne was down 5-0 in the second set after losing the first set. Toyne battled came back to win the second set in a tie-breaker and then win the third. The win puts the HPU men's team in the ASC tournament for the first time since 2002.

"This has been a great team effort all season long," said head coach Sally Brown. "I cannot say enough about these young men--not only great tennis players, but their character speaks volumns about them. They set their goals early and really went after it."
