Howard Payne Falls To HSU

Kate McLaughlin finished the game with two hits against HSU

IRVING, Texas - The Howard Payne Lady Jacket softball team season ends with a 2-4 loss to Hardin-Simmons University in the second round of the 2009 American Southwest Conference softball tournament at Trinity View Park.

Hardin-Simmons scored in the opening inning on a solo homerun to leftfield. Howard Payne picked up their two runs in the top of the third. It started with a Kimble Luna bunt single. A Lauren Bollich's SAC, bunt pushed Luna to second. Lauren Vesely grounded out to second but Luna advanced to third. McLaughlin then doubled to right center scoring Luna. After McLaughlin advanced to third on a wild pitch Ashly Silva singled to pitcher scoring McLaughlin. Rebecca McDaniel lined out to centerfield to end the inning.

HSU added two runs in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead. They added another run in the sixth to defeat Howard Payne 2-4.

Kate McLaughlin started and picked up the loss to finish the season at 4-4 on the year. McLaughlin also had two hits.

Howard Payne stands at 29-11 overall and is regionally ranked #8 in the NCAA West. The Lady Jackets do have a chance of getting an at-large bid to the NCAA West Regional Tournament.
