Women's Soccer Downs McMurry

ABILENE, Texas - Forward Leslie Jones gets her second hat-trick on the year as the Howard Payne University women's soccer team downs McMurry University 5-1 in conference action.

Junior midfielder, Lauren Hatcher had a huge day, having a part in all five goals, with four asissts and one goal. Leslie Jones took her team-leading goal total to 11 and freshmen defender, Kassey Nix scored her first collegiate goal.

Things got started when the HPU women scored two goals in two minutes off the boots of Nix and Jones in the 13th and 15th minute.

Jones would scored again, but this time in the second half in the 55th minute to make it 3-0 HPU.

Hatcher grabbed her goal in the 63rd minute on an assist from senior, Lauren Lewis.

Jones finished her hat-trick in the 87th minute and made the game 5-0 Lady Jackets.

HPU was not able to get the shut out though as McMurry would nab one goal in the 89th minute from Amber Torres to make the final, 5-1.

HPU finished with a massive 28 shots on goal on 45 attempts. The McMurry goalie Bianca Van Osdol had a long day making 23 saves.

HPU women move to 6-4-3 overall and 5-3-2 in the American Southwest Conference. McM is now 2-11-0 overall and 2-7-0 in the ASC.

The next game for the women will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 in Belton against The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
