Women's Soccer Ends Regular Season With 5 Game Win Streak

BROWNWOOD, Texas - Leslie Jones scores her twelfth and thirteenth goals of the season for the Howard Payne University women's soccer team in a 2-0 victory over Schreiner University Saturday afternoon for the regular season finale.

On Friday the women secured their spot in the American Southwest Conference Tournament with the win over Texas Lutheran. Saturday they were looking to move up in the standings to get a better a seed in the tournament that starts Nov. 5th in Abilene, Texas.

The first goal was scored midway through the first half when Emily Nutt got her first assist on the year finding Leslie Jones in the box on a cross to make the game 1-0 in the 23rd minute.

Schreiner would have a chance to tie the game in the 80th minute on a penalty kick, but Amanda Moon's kick was wide.

Jones would strike again when her and Jordyn Stephens hooked up in the box to make the final score 2-0.

The HPU women dominated and had 9 shots on goal on 23 attempts, including three off the posts of the goal. SU ended with 3 shots on goal.

HPU goal keeper Adrienne Walker had 3 saves on the day, along with shutout. SU keeper Genevieve Monroe had 7 saves. Fouls ended HPU 8, SU 6. Corner kicks were HPU 4, SU1.

HPU finishes the regular season 10-4-3 overall and 8-3-2 in the ASC. Schreiner goes to 6-12-0 overall and 5-8-0 in the ASC.

The Lady Jackets next game will be Nov. 5th in the first round of the ASC tournament in Abilene. More details to come early next week.
