Record Setting Day For Lady Jackets

#13 Leslie Jones scores four and sets ASC record versus LC

BROWNWOOD, Texas - Leslie Jones sets a new American Southwest Conference record and scores the fastest hat-trick in conference history while leading the Howard Payne University women's soccer team to a 6-0 win over Louisiana College.

Leslie Jones' hat-trick was complete just inside 11 minutes into the game. The three goals came in just a two minute span from the 9:14-11:15 mark. The previous record was a five minute span that was set by Janet Wilson of ETBU in 2005. Jones had four total goals in the game to give her eight on the season.

Jones fourth goal didn't come until 10 minutes into the second half when her shot deflected off the post into the net. The assist came from Allison Harp from on top of the box to make the game 4-0.

HPU's next would make it 5-0 on a penalty kick from Lauren Lewis in the 66th minute after a foul was committed by Louisiana College in the box.

The sixth and final goal would come from Harp in the 82nd minute on a shot from the top right side of the box unassisted.

The Lady Jackets ended the game with 28 shots on goal out of 53 attempts.

HPU Goal Keeper Kaitlyn Kelm, had a quiet day stopping the lone LC shot on goal. LC GK Emily Breaux, ended the day with 21 saves.

The women go to 5-3-3 on the year and 4-2-2 in the ASC, while LC falls to 0-12-1 overall and 0-5-1 in the ASC play.

The next game for the HPU women is at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15 in Abilene against ASC leader Hardin-Simmons University.
