Women's Tennis Off To 1-1 In ASC Play

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne women's tennis team started conference action this weekend and picked up a 6-3 win over Schreiner and loss to Sul Ross State 8-1.

On Friday the Lady Jackets were in Kerrville playing Schreiner University to open American Southwest Conference play. HPU started conference play right with a 6-3 win. Howard Payne was strong to start the match winning all three doubles to take a 3-0 lead. HPU when on to win the top three singles points only dropping the 4-6 singles points.

On Saturday Howard Payne was back in Brownwood playing Sul Ross State. The Lady Jackets dropped that match 8-1 to start conference play at 1-1. Howard Payne fell in all three doubles games. HPU picked up their point when Cassie Emerson defeated Sul Ross' Kristina Hernandez 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The Lady Jackets now stand a 2-7 overall and 1-1 in ASC play. They will travel in Abilene on Tuesday to play Hardin-Simmons University.
