Lady Jackets Unable To Match HSU Offensive Output

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's soccer team lost 8-1 to the defending NCAA III national champions Hardin-Simmons University in American Southwest Conference action Friday afternoon.

It was 7-0 Hardin-Simmons before Howard Payne was able to get on the scoreboard. HPU's Shannon Costello scored on a free kick from 35 yards out to make the game 7-1 HSU in the 68th minute.

The goal was only the second scored against HSU in conference play this season. Hardin-Simmons outshot Howard Payne 22-3 in the game.

With the loss the Lady Jackets are still in a strong postion in the conference standings at 6-4 overall and 5-3 in ASC action. Hardin-Simmons is now 11-1 overall and 8-0 in conference.

Howard Payne will play McMurry University on Saturday at 1:00 pm. The HPU seniors will be honored at the end of the contest.
