Jackets Defeat UDallas 72-67

Box Score IRVING, Texas - Howard Payne University used strong free-throw shooting in the second half to down the University of Dallas 72-67 on day two of  the UDallas Tipoff Classic.

The Yellow Jackets were 20 of 23 from the free-throw line in the game. Howard Payne outrebounded UDallas 34-26 and had 28 points in the paint to UDallas' 14.

The Jackets started the game with a 17-3 lead and went on to hold a 34-26 halftime advantage. UDallas did not back down and battled back to within one, 56-55, with 7:03 left in the game. 

Howard Payne would never trail in the game and held on for the 72-67 win. The Jackets now stand at 2-1 overall and UDallas falls to 1-2 to start the season.

Brandon Irwin led HPU with a game high 20 points followed by Joshua Dada with 14. Brandon Gould, Michael Thompson and Bryan Adams each added seven.

UDallas was led by Braeton Hightower with 17 and Tanner Bruffey added 14.

The Yellow Jackets will play next at home on the 26th versus the University of Texas at Dallas at 3:00 pm.
