Lady Jackets Defeat Ferrum 83-78

SHERMAN, Texas - The Howard Payne women's basketball team got big offensive games from Brittany Roberson and Dana Marrs to defeat Ferrum College 83-78 on day two of the Austin College Tournament.

With Howard Payne down 76-72 with 3:39 to play in the game, the Lady Jackets outscored Ferrum 11-2 in the remaining three minutes to secure the 83-78 victory.

With the win, Howard Payne starts the season at 2-0, while Ferrum falls to 2-1 overall.

It was Senae Dillard who hit a three-pointer and a layup in the closing minutes to give HPU the led back. Brittany Roberson and Dana Marrs hit six free-throws down the stretch to secure the win.

The lead changed hands several times during the game with Howard Payne holding a 44-38 halftime lead. The Lady Jackets got 25 of their game points from the free-throw line shooting 81%. Ferrum only managed 60% on 15 attempts.

Brittany Roberson had a game high 22 points with 11 of 11 shooting from the free-throw line. Dana Marrs followed closely behind with 20 and was 6 of 6 from the line. Roshonda Gayden had her first double double of the season with 13 points and a game high 10 rebounds.

Katy Kipps led Ferrum with 16 points on 5-11 shooting, going 6-7 at the line.  Jacole Hairston added 11 points, while Tesla Akers and Smith had 10 each.
 
Howard Payne will play next at home on Saturday, Nov. 26th at 1:00 pm versus the University of Texas at Dallas.
