Jackets Fall To Schreiner

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Yellow Jackets push in the final minutes came up short in a 77-88 loss to Schreiner University Saturday at the Brownwood Coliseum.

A two-point ballgame at halftime, both teams exchanged leads in the second. With 2:03 remaining in the game, the Jackets were down two, 70-72. Schreiner then scored eight straight points over the next minute to fend off the Jackets for the win.

Brandon Irwin led HPU with 20 points. Kanyon Payne had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Quentin Calloway had 13 and Michael Thompson added 10.

Riley Battle led Schreiner with a game high 31 points. Darren Smith had 19 and Tyrie Prince added 16.

HPU in now at 5-18 overall and 4-15 in ASC play. Schreiner sits at 10-13 overall and 8-11 in conference.

HPU will finish out the regular season next week at home on Thursday against McMurry and Hardin-Simmons on Saturday.
