Jackets Win Season Opener

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne men's tennis team open their 2011 team tennis season with a 6-3 win over LeTourneau University at the Nabers Tennis Center Thursday afternoon.

Howard Payne started the match strong taking all three doubles matches. Edward Martinez and Raymond Borjas won 9-8(7-0), Ryan Prather and Jeff Toyne won 8-4, and Shawn Hodge and Luis Vallecillo won 8-4.

HPU picked up the #2, #3, and #5 singles spots to win the match 6-3. Jeff Toyne won 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, Raymond Borjas won 6-0, 6-3, and Shawn Hodge won 6-1, 6-0.

The Jackets will play the University of Texas – Tyler on Friday at home. It will be a 2:00 pm start.
