Softball Drops First Two At UMHB

BELTON, Texas – The Howard Payne University softball team dropped two games to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor 4-5 and 6-7 to start their weekend series.

In game one after being down 0-4, HPU scored three in the top of the third inning to come within one 3-4. Each team added one more run apiece to come to the 4-5 final.

Kayla Castillo got the loss for HPU throwing two innings and striking out one. Janna Allen and Haleigh Caraway also saw action in relief.

Game two saw HPU with a 6-5 lead going in to the seventh inning. UMHB scored two runs in the final inning to win 6-7.

Baillie Trumble got the loss for HPU throwing three and one third innings and striking out three.
Elizabeth Alvarado had three hits the Lady Jackets and Evangelina Tellez and Brittany Johnson followed with two each.

Howard Payne is now 2-14 overall and UMHB is at 9-7 overall. The two teams will play a double header on Saturday to finish out the series.
