HPU Gets Double Header Wins Over Schreiner

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University softball team picked up double header wins 4-2 and 11-2 over Schreiner University Monday afternoon.

In game one, Schreiner scored first on a two-run homerun to left field in top of the fourth inning. The Lady Jackets answered back in the bottom of the inning when Kimble Luna doubled home Kelby Mann and Brittany Johnson to tie the game at 2-2.

HPU added one run in the 5th and one in the 6th to secure the 4-2 victory. After Haleigh Caraway and Kayla Castillo pitched two innings each, Baillie Trumble threw three scoreless innings to record the win.

Game two saw action in the opening frame, as the Lady Jackets scored four runs in the bottom of the first.

Schreiner did score one run in the top of the first and added a second in the fifth.

HPU scored an additional run in the second and then unloaded for five in the third. Another score in the fourth brought the score to 11-1 after five innings.

Haleigh Caraway got the win for Howard Payne with Kayla Castillo and Janna Allen seeing action in relief.

Howard Payne now stands at 4-16 overall and 2-4 in ASC play, while Schreiner falls to 3-9 overall and 1-5 in ASC acion. HPU will play next at Sul Ross State on March 25th and 26th.
