Jackets Drop Match To HSU

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University men's tennis team nearly pulled off a win over ASC rival Hardin-Simmons University falling in the end 6-3 at the Nabers Tennis Center Friday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets held an early lead after winning the #2 and #3 doubles. Ryan Prather and Jeff Toyne won 9-8(7-3) in the #2 doubles match and Shawn Hodge and Luis Vallecillo won 9-8(7-1) in the #3 doubles spot.

Edward Martinez in the #1 singles spot picked up the only other point for the Jackets in the match winning 7-5, 6-3. Raymond Borjas had a close match in the #3 spot falling in the third set 6-2, 1-6, 6-1.

The Jackets are now 6-3 overall on the year and will play a non-conference match with Dallas Baptist University on the 30th in Dallas.
