Jackets Defeat East Texas Baptist 2-1 To Open Conference Play

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's soccer team got goals from Shane Cazad and Reese Lawson in the first period to gain a 2-1 victory over visiting East Texas Baptist University to open conference action Thursday afternoon.

Shane Cazad got the Jackets started when he found the back of the net in the 25th minute on a pass from Joseph Gardner.

Cazad and Tyler Bynum would then find Reese Lawson for a goal and the 2-0 lead in the 38th minute.

ETBU would score their only goal of the match on a Juan Ramirez penalty kick in the 40th minute. Both teams held each other scoreless the remained of the game allowing the Jackets the 2-1 win.

Howard Payne improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while ETBU falls to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in ASC play.

Howard Payne will play LeTourneau University on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
