Lady Jackets Pick Up 2-1 Win Over Concordia

AUSTIN, Texas - The Howard Payne Lady Jackets found the back of the net twice before the midway point of the first half and held off a late attempted rally by the Concordia University Texas to stay undefeated with a 2-1 win.

Howard Payne (3-1, ASC 2-0) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard and took the lead in the fifth minute. Shortly following a corner kick, Leslie Jones took a loose ball at the top of the box and let it fly. The ball hit off the top of the crossbar and was ruled in following the bounce to put the Lady Jackets ahead.

HPU added insurance to their lead in the 20th minute when Jordyn Stephens came in all alone on a breakaway against CTX goal keeper. The keeper initially made a point-blank save, but Stephens collected her own rebound and tapped the ball into the net.

Concordia (3-4, ASC 1-2) doubled Howard Payne up in total shots attempted during the second stanza in an attempt to rally. Concordia was able to get on the board in the 87th minute.

Howard Payne's Adrienne Walker stopped nine of the 24 shots she saw to pick up the victory.

Howard Payne will be at the University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday continuing conference play.
