Jackets Fall To HSU

Box Score BROWNWOOD, Texas - Brandon Irwin scored a game high 23 points for Howard Payne University but it was not enough as the Yellow Jackets fell to Hardin-Simmons University 85-76 Saturday at the Brownwood Coliseum.

Hardin-Simmons forced 18 Yellow Jacket turnovers while only committing 12. HSU scored 24 points off the turnovers to just 9 for Howard Payne.

Howard Payne now stands at 7-8 overall and 5-6 in conference. Hardin-Simmons improves to 12-2 overall and 9-1 in conference.

After the Jackets found themselves down 32-26 at the break, Hardin-Simmons pushed their lead to as much as 12 midway through the second half. Howard Payne was able to make a push and cut the HSU lead to five with 5:51 left in the game. A Henry Valladares jumper on a Brandon Gould assist cut HSU's lead to 64-59. 

Hardin-Simmons was able to hold off HPU the rest of the game to secure the 85-76 win.

Along with Brandon Irwin's game high 23 points, Brandon Gould added 17 points, three assists and four blocks. Joshua Dada had 13 and Ja'Kalen Gayden had 10 rebounds.

HSU was led by Terrence Booker with 16 points. ASC scoring leading Matt Addison had 15 and Andy Spears added 14 points.

The Jackets will be on the road next week with games at Texas Lutheran on Thursday and Schreiner on Saturday.
