KERRVILLE, Texas – Brandon Irwin scored a game high 28 points for Howard Payne University as the Yellow Jackets defeat Schreiner University 86-72 in conference action Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets shot 50% from the field in the game while holding Schreiner to just 39% from the floor. The Yellow Jackets improve 8-9 overall and 6-7 in ASC action while Schreiner falls to 10-7 overall and 8-5 in conference.

HPU started strong in the first half and built a 43-36 halftime lead. Remaining about the same to start the second half, the Jackets put together a run and pushed their lead to 20 points midway through the half. Howard Payne was able to put the game away and post the 86-72 win.

Brandon Irwin had eight rebounds to go along with his game high 28 points. Joshua Dada had 12 points. Brandon Gould and Henry Valladares each added 10 points. JaKalan Gayden grabbed a game high 11 rebounds.

Schreiner was led by Travis Pflughaupt with 25 points and eight rebounds. Darren Smith followed with 15 points.

Howard Payne will have two road games next week, Thursday at Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton and Saturday at Concordia Texas in Austin.
