Jackets Lose To East Texas Baptist

MARSHALL - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team was held to 29% shooting for the game in a 89-66 loss to East Texas Baptist University Thursday evening.

The Yellow Jackets found thenselves down 10-0 to start the game and did not record their first bucket till 16:25 on the clock. Howard Payne's shooting woes continued and the Jackets found themselves down 48-30 at the half.

ETBU shot 52% from the field in the game and was 11 of 23 from behind the three-point line for 48%. The Jackets were outrebounded 48-38 in the game.

Howard Payne are now 6-6 overall and 4-5 in conference. ETBU is 6-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

Howard Payne was led by Brandon Irwin with a game high 29 points. Irwin was 8 of 16 from the field and 12 of 13 from the free-throw line. Travis Taillet finished with 10 points with Henry Valladares following with nine.

J.D. Richardson led ETBU with 19 points followed by Jaron Joseph with 17. Jeremy LaGarde had 13 points with five assists.

The Yellow Jackets will end this road trip on Saturday at Centenary College(LA) with a 3:00 pm game.
