Women's Soccer Falls On A Penalty Kick

MARSHALL, Texas – An East Texas Baptist penalty kick in the 74th minute was the difference in the match as ETBU held off Howard Payne University 2-1 in American Southwest Conference action Thursday afternoon. 

Howard Payne is now 4-6 overall and 4-3 in the ASC, ETBU improves to 5-3-1 overall and 5-3-1 in conference.

ETBU netted the first goal of the game in the 36th minute to break the scoreless tie.

HPU's Stephanie Boggs tied the match at 1-1 in the 56th minute when ETBU was called for a hand ball in the box.  Boggs sailed a shot to the right side past ETBU's Christina Salas to tie the match.

It wasn't until the 74th minute when ETBU received a penalty kick for a foul in the box for the game winning goal, 2-1.

ETBU finished with seven shots as four were on goal but Howard Payne took eight shots with four on goal.  Walker had two for Howard Payne while ETBU's Salas recorded three saves.

Howard Payne will play next on October 16th in Abilene versus #3 Hardin-Simmons University at 3:00 pm.
