HPU matches school record for points in a game

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne women's soccer team tied the school record for goals in a game in an 8-0 conference victory over visiting Schreiner University Saturday afternoon at Citizens National Bank field.

HPU forward Leslie Jones recorded a hat trick with goals in the 15th, 17th and 62nd minutes. Rebecca Lamar assisted on the first two Jones' goals. Katy Nix assists on the third Jones goal.

Lamar would score herself in the 49th minute on a cross that found the near post.

Shannon Costello scored in the 33rd minute on an assist from Lauren Wilmer after a shot was blocked by keeper and followed Costello.

Kassey Nix assisted on a Linsey Reed goal in the 38th minute. Haley Clanahan scored added an unassisted goal in the 69th minute and Stephanie Boggs scored from 20 yard out over the keepers head in the 89th minute.

The eight Lady Jacket goals tied the HPU record for goals in a game, eight versus McMurry University on November 23rd of 2009.

The Lady Jackets used three different keepers in the shutout win. With the win, Adrienne Walker one save in 45:00 minutes. Andrea Barvientos 3:01 minutes of work and Courtney Beene one save in 41:59 minutes of action.

Howard Payne is now 4-5 overall and Schreiner falls to 1-10-1 overall. The Lady Jackets will play next Thursday at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas.
