Lady Jackets Win Season Opener

Box Score CLINTON, Mississippi – Howard Payne point guard Tresta Donahoo scored a game high 25 in a 96-77 Lady Jacket victory over Berry College to open the 2012-2013 season.

After leading 46-44 at the half, Howard Payne used 49% shooting to open up a 23 point lead midway through the second half. The Lady Jackets also held Berry to just 33 points while scoring 50 in the half.

"Great opening win for our girls,” said HPU head coach Joshua Prock. “They really played hard in the second half, I am very proud of their effort."

The Lady Jackets outrebounded Berry 42-35 and forced 26 turnovers in the game.

Tresta Donahoo led the way with a game high 25 points sparked by 5 of 6 shooting from behind the arc. She also dished out seven assists and recorded five steals. Dana Marrs followed closely with 22 points on 10 of 14 shooting.

Danyel Bradley played solid off the bench with 14 points and three assists. Senae Dillard pulled down a team high seven rebounds.

Berry had five players in double digits led by Chanlir Segarra with 18 and Megan Walsh with 16 points and a game high eight rebounds.

The Lady Jackets will play tomorrow against Huntingdon College at 1:00 pm on day two of the Mississippi College tournament and then return home to play the University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday, November 24th at 1:00 pm.
