Jackets Fall To UT-Tyler

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne men's basketball team only managed 34% shooting from the field as the Yellow Jackets fell 79-60 to the University of Texas at Tyler Saturday afternoon.

UT-Tyler shot 53% from the field and 52% from behind the arc while holding the Jackets to just 24 of 70 shots for the game.

UT-Tyler use a big run midway through the first half to gain a 50-25 halftime advantage, UT-Tyler continued their hot shooting to start the second pushing their lead to as much as 39 points with eight minutes remaining.

The Jackets would chip away at the lead in the final minutes but it was too much to overcome as UT-Tyler secured the game 79-60.

Ja'Kalan Gayden led the Jackets with 14 points followed closely by Brandon Gould with 13 points. Christian Davis grabbed a team high eight rebounds.

Jordan Cannon led UTT with 19 points and nine rebounds. Darren Houliston added 12.

Howard Payne is now 1-2 overall and 0-1 in ASC play, while UTT improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the ASC. Howard Payne will play again next Thursday at home versus conference opponent Mississippi College at 7:30 pm.
