Jackets Lose 77-68

BROWNWOOD, Texas – Howard Payne University only managed 36% shooting from the field as the Yellow Jackets pick up a 77-68 conference loss to Louisiana College Saturday afternoon in men's basketball action.

Louisiana College shot 50% from the field while the Yellow Jackets struggled from the field with 36% shooting. The Jackets were also 12 of 20 from the free-throw line for 60%.

The Jackets would never lead in the game with LC holding a 39-26 halftime advantage. HPU was 9 of 33 from the field in the opening half.

Howard Payne cut the LC lead to five with :25 second remaining but would not be able to get it any closer as LC went on to win 77-68.

The Jackets were led by Christian Davis with 20 points and 11 rebounds, his first double double of his career. Travis Taillet had 13 and Michael Thompson added 10 with seven rebounds.

LC was led by Anthony Gaines with 21. Danny Sumner and Doc Welch had 17 and 15 respectively.

LC had 21 fastbreak points to just six for Howard Payne. The Jackets would outrebound Louisiana College 42-38.

Howard Payne is now 1-4 on the year and 0-3 in conference play. LC stands at 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the ASC. The Jackets will play next on December 8th in Longview, Texas versus LeTourneau University at 3:00 pm.
