LONGVIEW, Texas – The Howard Payne men's basketball team shot 52% from the field in the second half to secure a 91-79 road win over LeTournaeu University Friday evening.

A huge second half from Howard Payne erased a LeTourneau first half lead and gave the Yellow Jackets a 91-79 win.

It was a back and forth, highly contested first half as neither team held a lead over four points. Each team shot over 45% with LeTourneau gaining a 38-36 lead at the break.

However, as LeTourneau cooled down in the second half, Howard Payne continued to heat up, shooting 52% in the second half to outscore the LeTourneau by 14 and take the win.

HPU was led by Brandon Gould with a game high 23 points. Gould was also 9 of 11 from the free-throw line and had five assists. Michael Thompson added 16 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Christian Davis had 14 points and Quelan Lancaster added a season high 12 points.

Williams led Letu with 17 points and four steals while Chad Williams added 14 points and Kendrae Carter, Justin Jones, and Ladaria Brown had nine points each. Brown added six assists and Carter pulled down 11 boards.

Howard Payne now stands at 3-7 overall and LeTourneau falls to 4-7 overall. HPU will travel to Huntsville, Texas on Saturday to play NCAA D-I Sam Houston State University at 3:45 pm.
