Jackets Fall At Sam Houston State

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Howard Payne men's basketball team turned the ball over 23 times and picked up a 90-49 loss to NCAA D-I Sam Houston State University Saturday afternoon at Johnson Coliseum.

The Yellow Jackets shot just 36% from the field in the first while Sam Houston State used 47% shooting to hold a 43-21 halftime lead. It was 16 first half turnovers for HPU that was the difference in the opening half.

It was more Sam Houston State in the second half as they extended their lead to over 30 with 8 minutes remaining. SHSU would go on to win 90-49.

Brandon Gould led HPU with 10 points and four assists. Christian Davis had nine and Michael Thompson and JaKalan Gayden each added eight.

SHSU was led by Paul Baxter with 16 points off the bench. Terrance Motley followed with 15. Darius Gatson had five assists.

The Jackets stand at 3-8 overall and Sam Houston improves to 7-5 overall. The Yellow Jackets will play next on January 3rd at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR.
