Lady Jacket Tennis In Florida

ORLANDO, Florida – The Howard Payne University women's tennis team went 1-2 in matches in Florida this week picking up a win over Illinois Wesleyan University.

The team was scheduled to play two matches on Sunday but only one was rescheduled due to rain for the following day. On Monday, HPU played the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse and Illinois Wesleyan.

The Lady Jackets fell to the Wisconsin – La Crosse 8-1 picking up only the number two singles. Joan Burks defeated UW-La Crosse's Liv Hartwick in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Howard Payne defeated Illinois Wesleyan 5-4 on Monday. HPU took the number one and three doubles matches 8-5 and 8-5. The number one and two singles players of Gabi Crunelle and Joan Burk stepped up big both winning in three sets.

On Tuesday, HPU took on St. Mary's College (IN) falling 8-1. It was closer that the score indicated as the Lady Jackets narrowly dropped the number one and two singles matches. The number one doubles team of Crunelle and Burks defeated Faller and Kiefer of St. Mary's 8-5.

The Lady Jackets are now 2-9 overall on the year. They will play next in Brownwood on March 23rd versus the University of the Southwest at 1:00 pm.
