Softball Splits With CTX

AUSTIN, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team took game two of a double header 3-1 over Concordia University Texas after falling 10-2 in game one on Friday.

Howard Payne got on the scoreboard first in their first at bat when Tylene Middleton double to left center scoring Katie Poerner. Concordia scored four runs in the bottom of the first to gain a lead that they would never lose. The Lady Jackets added another run in the top of the second when Evangelina Tellez singled to bring home Shandi Winstead. Kayla Castillo got the loss for HPU and Tellez was 2 of 2 from the plate with the RBI.

Game two saw the Lady Jackets buckling down defensively with Baillie Trumble would pick up the complete game win 3-1. Poerner was 3 of 4 from the plate with a RBI and Winstead went 2 of 3 in the game. HPU got all three of their runs in the third. Middleton scored on a CTX short stop throwing error to first, then Winstead scored later on a passed ball and to round it off a Poerner double would bring home Liz Alvarado.

HPU is now 8-14 overall and 3-7 in ASC action and Concordia stands at 7-9 overall and 1-5 in conference. The two teams will finish their conference series with another double header tomorrow starting at 1:00 pm.
