Jacket Tennis Takes 5-4 Win From TLU

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's tennis team uses three tie-breaker sets to defeat Texas Lutheran University 5-4 in American Southwest Conference West Division action Friday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets picked up their team points by winning all three doubles matches (8-2, 9-8(7-2), 9-8(7-5)) and the number one and two single spots. Edward Martinez defeated TLU's Sanio Dizdarevic 6-1, 6-1 in number one singles play, but it was Ryan Prather at the number two spot that clinched the match for HPU. Prather defeated David Schneider of TLU in a third set tie-breaker 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2).

Howard Payne University is now 6-8 overall and 3-1 in ASC West play. Texas Lutheran falls to 6-6 overall and 2-2 ASC West action. Howard Payne will play a rescheduled non-conference match with Austin College tomorrow at 2:00 pm at the Nabers Tennis Center.
