Softball Completes Four-Game Sweep

ALPINE, Texas - The Howard Payne softball team posted two shutout wins 8-0 and 11-0 over Sul Ross State University  to complete the series sweep of the Lady Lobos. Baillie Trumble throws perfect game in game two of the Saturday double header.

The day started with the Lady Jackets winning 8-0 in seven innings. Kayla Castillo threw the complete game shutout for HPU allowing just three hits. Castillo struckout five and walked none. Katie Poerner and Carissa Zarate each had two hits.

Baillie Trumble threw her first career no-hitter in game two. HPU scored 11 runs on nine hits and were helped by six Sul Ross errors. Tylene Middleton went 4 of 4 from the plate and Shandi Winstead hit her second homerun of the day.

Howard Payne, who is currently in 3rd place in the ASC West Division standings, is now 18-16 overall and 12-8 conference. The Lady Jackets will be back at home next weekend in a conference series with Hardin-Simmons.
