Softball Takes Two From TLU

BROWNWOOD, Texas – Howard Payne University took a pair of American Southwest Conference West Division softball games from Texas Lutheran University on Thursday. The Lady Jackets won game one 4-1 and game two 6-2.

Howard Payne moved to 13-15 overall and to 7-7 in ASC West. TLU fell to 13-17 overall and to 8-10 in the ASC West.

The Lady Jackets jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after scoring two runs in each of the first two innings. Jessica Morales led HPU in game one going 2 of 3 from the plate.

Kayla Castillo (5-6) tossed a complete-game four-hitter in the early game and threw three innings in game two for her second save.

In game two, HPU used a five-run third to gain a 5-1 advantage. Katie Poerner and Carissa Zarate each had two hits for the Lady Jackets in the game.

Baillie Trumble picked up the win in game two for HPU. Trumble (6-5) scattered eight hits and allowed one earned run.

TLU and HPU play a conference doubleheader Friday. Game one in Brownwood starts at noon.
