ABILENE, Texas – The Howard Payne University cross country teams started their 2012 season with a strong showing at the Hardin-Simmons University Invitational this past Saturday.

The Howard Payne women finished second as a team at the meet with 98 points and a total time of 26:19.40, just behind Concordia University Texas.

The top Lady Jacket runner was Carissa Zarate, who finished 16th overall with a time of 24:38.0 in the 3 mile race.

The men finished 6th overall with a team time of 26:41.0 in the 4 mile race. Sean Locker was the top finisher for the Jackets with a time of 26:14.0 in the 33rd spot.

The HPU teams will run next on September 8th at the Bill Libby Invitational in Abilene, Texas
