Jackets Fall In Closing Minute To Hardin-Simmons

ABILENE, Texas - The Howard Payne men's basketball teams loses 86-82 in the final minute to Hardin-Simmons University in American Southwest Conference action Monday evening.

Howard Payne was down 12 with 11:52 remaining in the game but battled back to gain a 80-78 advantage with 3:40 left to play. It was tied at 82-82 with just 16 seconds left when HSU hit a layup to take a 84-82 lead. The Jackets were unable to get a shot off on their last possesion and had to foul.

Howard Payne was outscored 42-30 in the paint which proved to be the difference in the game. The Jackets did commit 22 turnovers in the game while forcing 17.

HPU was led by Brandon Gould with 19 points. Gould was 6 of 6 from the free-throw line. Christian Davis followed with 18 points and was 9 of 10 from the line. Davis added a team high eight rebounds. Bryan Adams in his first start of the season finished with 16 points.

Andy Spears led HSU with 29 points. Jeff Holland, Charles Sams and Darius Singletary each added 12 points.

Howard Payne is now 5-11 overall and 3-8 in conference. HSU stands at 11-6 overall and 8-3 in conference. Howard Payne will play next on Thursday at home versus Concordia University Texas at 7:30 pm.
