Jackets Defeat Ozarks In OT

CLARKSVILLE, AR – The Howard Payne men's basketball team needed overtime to defeat the University of the Ozarks 83-82 Thursday evening in conference action.

Howard Payne's Christian Davis would hit a jumper with 3 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Then it was Michael Thompson that hit a free-throw with one second left in overtime to give the Yellow Jackets the 83-82 conference victory.

The Yellow Jackets led at the break 34-27 despite shooting 38% from the field. Howard Payne heated up in the second shooting 53% but it was Ozarks that had 16 more free-throw attempts that lead to an overtime game.

Brandon Gould led HPU with 22 points, eight assists and 5 rebounds. Michael Thompson added 15 points and a game high 15 rebounds. Christian Davis score 18 and JaKalan Gayden recorded 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Ozarks was led by Andrew Cummings with 24 points and Marcus Bobb followed with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets are now 4-8 overall and 2-4 in conference. Ozarks falls to 3-9 overall and 1-6 in ASC play.  Howard Payne will play at the University of Texas at Dallas on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
