Jacket Basketball Falls To Austin College In Opener

Donovan Ford scored a game high 33 points in the season opener at Austin College

Box Score SHERMAN, Texas – Howard Payne's Donovan Ford scored a game high 33 points in a 104-92 Yellow Jackets loss to Austin College Saturday evening at Hughey Gym.

After finding themselves down by as much as 17 with five minutes remaining in the first half, the Yellow Jackets outscored Austin College 12-4 to finish out the half to pull within eight, 45-37.

Despite out rebounding Austin College 44-35 for the game, it was the 51% shooting from the field for Austin College that ended up being the big advantage over the Howard Payne. Howard Payne was 35-for-50 from the free-throw line and Austin College was 13-for-15.

The Jackets were led by Donovan Ford's game high 33 points along with seven rebounds. Ford was 11-for-19 from the field adding four assists. Blake Arbogast and Colby Bryd followed with 14 points each. Jordan Young added 10 points.

Austin College was led by Ransom Okpala with 19 points and nine rebounds. Brian Baehl followed with 16 points and seven assists.

Howard Payne will travel to Alpine, Texas on Tuesday to take on conference opponent Sul Ross State University at 7:30 pm.
