Jackets Fall On Last Second Shot

Brandon Gould led all scorers with 24 points versus Sul Ross State

Box Score ALPINE, Texas - The Howard Payne men's basketball team falls to Sul Ross State University 64-62 on a last second shot in their conference opener Tuesday evening at the Gallego Center.

Down 13 points with 11 minutes remaining in the game, the Yellow Jackets battled back to tie the game at 62-62 on a three-point shot by Jordan Young with :26 seconds remaining. After a Sul Ross timeout, the Lobos first shot to win was a miss but the put back Luke Taylor was good to defeat the Jackets 64-62.

Howard Payne found themselves down most of the game plagued by 25% first half shooting. The Jackets were just 7 of 28 from the field in the opening half but shot 50% from the field in the second, finishing 37.5% for the game.

Howard Payne was outrebounded 46-41 in the game. Neither team shot the ball well from the free-throw line, the Jackets 16 of 27 for 59.3% and Sul Ross 7 of 14 for 50%.

Howard Payne was led by Brandon Gould with a game high 24 points along with seven rebounds. Bryan Adams followed with 10 points and six rebounds. Christian Davis added a team high eight rebounds with nine points.

Percy Settle led Sul Ross with 18 points followed by Mychal Pinson with 14 points. Dominic Countee had a game high 12 rebounds and Zakk Revelle added a game high six assists.

Howard Payne is now 0-2 on the year and Sul Ross State stands at 1-2 overall. The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Saturday, November 23rd versus the University of Texas at Dallas in the Brownwood Coliseum at 3:00 pm.
