Lady Jackets Win 105-72

Box Score BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Lady Jackets basketball team hit the century mark for first time the season with a 105-72 conference victory over Sul Ross State University Tuesday evening at the Brownwood Coliseum.

The Lady Jackets picked apart the Sul Ross defense in the opening minutes building a 17 point lead in the first four minutes. A Danyel Bradley three-pointer with 16:03 left in the first half gave Howard Payne a 20-3 advantage. Bradley finished with 21 points, six rebounds and seven assists.

After slow pulling away through the rest of the half, the Lady Jackets would end the first half with a 7-0 run to hold a 63-35 halftime lead. HPU shot a red-hot 59% from the field in the opening half.

It was more of the same in the second as the Lady Jackets built their lead to as much as 44 midway through the second half. A Sarah Van Remmen layup with 9:47 remaining would give Howard Payne a 95-51 lead.  Van Remmen finished the game with 18 points and a game high 14 rebounds. The Lady Jackets then cruised to the 105-72 victory.

Britani Gattis led Howard Payne with 25 points and a game high 14 rebounds. McKinley Meyer added 17 points and Shardena Hudson had a career high 10 assists. Kalin Hana had ten rebounds and four blocks.

Sul Ross was led by Asrelle Anderson with a game high 26 points and Ashley Ousley followed with 10 points.

The Lady Jackets are now 2-1 overall and 2-1 in conference action. Sul Ross State falls to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference. Howard Payne will travel to Kerrville to play Schreiner University on Saturday, November 30th at 3:00 pm.
