Jackets Top Cowboys 88-84

Box Score ABILENE, Texas – The Howard Payne men's basketball team battled back from four points down with two minutes remaining to claim an 88-84 conference victory over Hardin-Simmons University Saturday evening at the Mabee Athletic Complex.

The Yellow Jackets got two key defensive stops and crucial baskets by Brandon Gould and Donovan Ford in the closing minute to secure the 88-84 win.

Despite being outrebounded 46-38 by Hardin-Simmons, the Jackets would out shoot HSU 45% to 40% for the game. Free-throws were key for the Jackets hitting 30 of 35 from the line.

Brandon Gould and Quelan Lancaster each finished with 19 points for the Yellow Jackets. Gould led all with seven assists and Lancaster pulled down a team high nine rebounds. Donovan Ford had 15 points and Bryan Adams followed with 12. Christian Davis added 11 points.

Hardin-Simmons was led by Derrick Jefferson with a game high 30 points and 13 rebounds. Titus Mims had 12 and Jim Walker had 11 points.

The Yellow Jackets are now 2-5 overall and 2-4 in conference action. Hardin-Simmons is 1-6 overall and 1-3 in ASC play.

Howard Payne will play next on December 28th and 29th at the Rhodes College Tournament in  Memphis, TN.
