Jackets Tennis Starts Conference Play With Win

ALPINE, Texas - After nearly four weeks since their last team match, the Howard Payne men's tennis team started conference play with a 7-2 victory over Sul Ross State University.

Howard Payne started the match by winning two of the three doubles points. HPU's Luis Vallecillo and Jeremy Rodriguez won in number one doubles 8-5 and Jacob Carrillo and Noland Ethridge won 8-2 in number three doubles. HPU narrowly dropped the number two double match 9-8.

Jeremy Rodriguez had the closest singles match for the Jackets defeating Tanar Ragan of Sul Ross 7-6, 2-6, 12-10. Howard Payne won all the singles match except the number six spot to round out the 7-2 team victory.

Howard Payne is now 2-6 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Jakcets will play next on Friday in Odessa versus NCAA-II UT-Permian Basin.
