ALPINE, Texas - After a four week break from team competition, the Howard Payne women's tennis team won their conference opener 7-2 over Sul Ross State University.

The Lady Jackets started the match by taking all three doubles matches 8-4, 9-8, 8-4.

Howard Payne only dropped the number two and six singles matches to complete the 7-2 team win. The most contested singles match of the day was the number one spot with HPU's Joan Burks defeating Lauren Lettunich of Sul Ross 6-7, 7-6, 6-4.

Howard Payne is now 3-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Lady Jakcets will play next on Friday in Odessa versus NCAA-II UT-Permian Basin.
