ABILENE, Texas - The Howard Payne softball teams takes doubles header wins 7-2 and 10-7 from Hardin-Simmons University securing an American Southwest Conference playoff spot in the process.

Baillie Trumble allowed just four hits in game one of the double header as the Lady Jackets cruise to a 7-2 victory. Howard Payne had 13 hits as a team with Katie Poerner and Shandi Winstead leading with three hits each.

Howard Payne got homeruns from Evangelina Telles and Shandi Winstead to help build a 4-0 lead after four innings. After Hardin-Simmons scored two in the fifth, the Lady Jackets put the game away with three-runs in the sixth.

Baillie Trumble got the complete game win giving up two runs on four hits. She improves to 9-8 on the year.

Game two saw Hardin-Simmons gaining a 3-0 advantage after three, only to have the Lady Jackets erase the lead with three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Hardin-Simmons would tie the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. HPU opened the game up with a four-run top of the eight and secured the game 10-7 in the bottom of the inning.

Tylene Middleton would hit her conference best 11th homerun of the year in the seventh. HPU had 17 hits in the game with seven players recording multiple hits. Haleigh Caraway led going 3-for-5 from the plate.

Caraway, now at 9-5 on the year, recorded the win giving up seven runs on 12 hits and striking out two.

Howard Payne is now 19-18 overall and 14-8 in ASC West Division play. Hardin-Simmons falls to 11-24-1 overall and 9-13 in conference. The Lady Jackets only need one win in tomorrow's double header with Hardin-Simmons or a Concordia loss this weekend to secure the number third spot in the final ASC West Division standings.
