Jacket Tennis Loses To Schreiner

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne men's tennis team dropped a close conference match with Schreiner University 6-3 Friday afternoon at the Nabers Tennis Center.

The match started with doubles play and the Jackets taking the number three doubles 9-8(7-5) and narrowly losing the other two 8-5 and 9-8(7-5). Jacob Carrillo and Nolan Ethridge of HPU were the number three doubles winners.

The Jackets were only able to pick up two additional points in singles play gaining the number two and three singles spots. HPU's Will Thomas defeated Stephen Rogers 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 in number two singles and Jeremy Rodriguez defeated Nathan West of Schreiner 6-3, 6-2 in number three singles.

Howard Payne now stands at 2-7 overall and 1-1 in conference. The Jackets will take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday at home starting at 11:00 am.
