SB Finishes Series With TLU

SEGUIN, Texas – The Howard Payne softball team still remains in contention for an American Southwest Conference playoff spot despite 4-0 and 9-1 losses to Texas Lutheran University Saturday afternoon.

In game one on Saturday, Howard Payne recorded just two hits and fell 4-0. Errors played a big role in the game with the Lady Jackets committing three.

Tylene Middleton and Carissa Zarate each had hits for HPU. Baillie Trumble got the loss for Howard Payne giving up four runs, one earned, on six hits. She struck out two and walked two.

Game two saw the Lady Jackets giving up three runs in each of the third and fourth innings. Again fielding errors led to nine runs for TLU. With the bases loaded in the sixth an Amanda Cruddas single would score Haleigh Caraway to make the score 6-1 TLU. HPU gave up three runs in the bottom of that inning to bring the game to its final score of 9-1.

Caraway recorded the loss for the Lady Jackets giving up nine runs, four earned, on 13 hits.

Howard Payne now stands at 13-18 overall and 8-8 in ASC play. Texas Lutheran is now 28-8 overall and 18-2 in conference. The Lady Jackets will play next weekend at home versus Sul Ross State University. It will be senior weekend.
