Stephanie Boggs scored a goal in the 22nd minute vs Schreiner

Box Score BROWNWOOD, Texas - Howard Payne freshman Marley Zochert scored two second period goals to secure the 4-1 non-conference victory over Schreiner University Sunday afternoon in the Lady Jackets season opener.

Howard Payne got goals in the 12th and 22nd minutes to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. Taylor Bicknell scored the first goal for HPU on assists from Marley Zaochert and Elliott Gray, Stephanie Boggs would score an unassisted goal to round out the first half scoring for the Lady Jackets.

Schreiner would score their only goal of the match just three minutes into the second half. 2-1 HPU.

In the second, HPU freshman Marley Zochert stepped up and shut the door on the Schreiner comeback. Zochert netted an unassisted goal in the 65th minute and then took an assist from Hunter Peel and Saphara Zavala in the 87th minute to record her second in the half.

Adrienne Walker got the start in goal for the Lady Jackets seeing just 27 minutes of action. Kelsie Piland saw 40 minutes in goal recording one save. Shelby Spaulding also saw 23 minutes in goal with two saves.

Howard Payne outshot Schreiner 12-5 in the match and took 10 corner kicks and allowed Schreiner none.

The Lady Jackets are now 1-4-0 overall and Schreiner stands at 0-4-0 overall. Howard Payne will play next on September 15th in Abilene versus Chapman University at 12:00 pm (noon).
