Lady Jackets Fall To Lady Choctaws

Box Score CLINTON, Mississippi – The Howard Payne University women's basketball team is defeated 82-67 on a second half surge by Mississippi College Saturday afternoon at A.E. Wood Coliseum.

After both teams played to a 36-36 tie at the half, Mississippi College would hold the Lady Jackets to just 26% shooting in the second half, 1 of 9 from behind the arc.

Mississippi College would then push their lead to 20, 80-60, with 3:38 remaining in the game. MC shot 56% from the field in the second half.

The Lady Jacket then had a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 13, 80-67, with 1:03 remaining in the game. That was as close as HPU would get with the Lady Jackets falling 82-67.

Howard Payne did outrebound Mississippi College 46-35. Foul trouble for the Lady Jackets played a big role in the loss as the Lady Choctaws had ten more free-throw attempts than HPU.

Danyel Bradley led HPU with 16 points, ten rebounds and five assists. Yessenia Cazares, Britani Gattis and Sarah Van Remmen each followed with 12 points. Kalin Hanna and Van Remmen each grabbed seven rebounds.

Cara Beverin led MC with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Dominque Walker added 18 points and nine rebounds. Alexus Stirgus had 12 points and Cassie Crozier had 10 points.

Howard Payne is now 7-6 overall and 6-4 in conference. MC stands at 6-5 overall and 4-4 in conference. The Lady Jackets will play at home next week on Thursday, January 16th versus East Texas Baptist at 5:30 pm.
