Jackets Fall In OT 85-81

Box Score BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne men's basketball team gets a game high 27 points from Brandon Gould but would fall in a overtime nail bitter 85-81 Thursday evening at the Brownwood Coliseum.

With the Yellow Jackets leading by 10 with 10:59 remaining in the game, ETBU would put together a 9-2 run to tie the game at 60-60.

ETBU would gain the lead and hold a 73-67 advantage with :44 seconds remaining. Then a layup and foul shot by Brandon Gould pulled the Jackets to within three with :37 seconds left.

The Jackets would force a turnover and their next possession HPU's Jorden Young sank a three point bucket to tie the game a 73-73 with :17 seconds left. The Jackets would stop ETBU's last chance in regulation to force overtime.

The Tigers hit the first basket in overtime and limited the Jackets shot choices to claim the win 85-81. ETBU would get free-throw opportunities in overtime going 6 of 10 in the overtime period.

Brandon Gould led all scorers with 27 points along with eight rebounds. Gould was 12 of 14 from the free-throw line and dished out four assists. Bryan Adams finished with 16 points on 6 of 7 shooting but had the leave the game late in the second half due to an injury. Quelan Lancaster had 10 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Ross Whittet had 12 points and a game high five assists. Jordan Young had 13 points and seven rebounds. Nigele Robertson had a game high 12 rebounds with four blocks off the bench.

Monty Grays led ETBU with 17 points followed by Erby Thompson with 15 points. Jamil Samuel had 12 points and eight rebounds. Tyler Day had 11 points.

Howard Payne falls to 3-11 overall and 3-8 overall. ETBU stands at 5-8 overall and 3-7 in conference. The Yellow Jackets will play next on Saturday versus LeTourneau University at 3:00 pm.
