Jackets Fall 78-75

Box Score BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Yellow Jackets last minute push came up short as the University of Texas at Tyler defeated Howard Payne University 78-75 in conference action Saturday afternoon.

Finding themselves down midway through the first half, the Jackets would put together a run and hold a 44-40 halftime advantage.

Both teams would gain the lead at some point in the second half. With :50 seconds remaining and the Patriots up by four, 76-72, Bryan Adams would hit a three-pointer to pull the Jackets within one.

UT-Tyler then hit a layup with :35 seconds left to go up by three. Howard Payne would be unable to get a bucket in the final seconds and fell 78-75.

Both teams shot over 55% from the field in the game but neither team was good from the line both shooting less than 50%.

Christian Davis led Howard Payne with 15 points along with seven rebounds off the bench. Brandon Gould and Bryan Adams each added 13 points. Gould also had eight assists and four steals.

UT-Tyler was led by Travis Dykman with a game high 18 points. Bryce Kemp had 17 points with seven rebounds. Jordan Cannon followed with 14 points and eight assists.

Howard Payne is now is 3-8 overall and 3-5 in ASC play. UT-Tyler stands at 6-5 overall and 5-3 in conference. Howard Payne will hit the road next week to play Louisiana College on Thursday at 7:30 pm and Mississippi College on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
